Our oven, the Norwegian Blue. Its not restin.

Here’s the thing:

Tracy (we think fairly understandably) has a thing about the reliability and quality of her ovens or stove. After all, the NoMU Recipe Mailers are all shot at home in our kitchen. The menu and recipes are practiced and perfected in our kitchen, long before we prep them again to be made up and shot for the mailer.  Although the Mailer is a professional job, the entire, completely chaotic process does take place in our kitchen. This usually also involves Joseph sprinting around, dogs barking, meetings happening etc. etc.

Occupational hazards aside though, when Tracy and I moved into our home , the previous owners, (for whichever reasons) were only too happy to off-load the existing oven and stove onto us. By this stage , the poor Defy unit in question had definitely, already seen better days.

Perhaps by then, it was dreaming of new owners who would only occassionally do the odd casserole or maybe a few potato bakes from time to time. Maybe a chocolate cake for special occassions? The last thing it probably expected, from a karmic point of view (and in light of its many years of faithful service until then), was Tracy. It must have felt an awful, terrified pang of extreme reluctance, deep within its rusty wiring, when Tracy yanked open its creaking doors and switched it to 280′ just to see if it still worked.

One does have to pity the poor sod at least a little.

The fact is however that it has now died though. Its not ‘restin.’ It has passed on. It is no more. It has ceased to be and is bereft of life. It has run down the curtain and joined the choir invisible. It is an Ex-oven.

It might be labouring the humour of the situation but since we are now going down this road anyway; it has even ‘tripped the light fantastic’ (oddly, this is also a literal problem as it does trip the electricity, often).

Here, for a laugh, amuse yourself with how we actually feel:

Back to the job at hand though: Tracy and I need to choose a new oven and stove. So before our next pseudo-anniversary gift to one another gets turned into a slightly dull marketing expense, we were hoping to get some professional advice on what might work best for us, bearing in mind the sort of home and professional, fairly heavy-duty stuff that our next galley slave is going to be able to handle. So, if anyone knows anyone who knows the hairdresser of the secretary of a decent appliance manufacturer, we are open to recommendations.

In fact, since this might be fun as well; if there any brand managers who would like to try and convince us why their ‘make’ is better than  anyone else’s we will publish their arguments on our blog too.

I mean, why not?

Anyway, here is a picture of the poor relic with (regrettably) very little plumage left. R.I.P. Gemini Turbofan…

NOT pining for the Fjords...
